When you first install MotiveWave® the install wizard will walk you through the steps of creating your first workspace. For various reasons, you may want to create additional workspaces:
Separate Live and Demo Environments – This can be a good way to completely separate your demo accounts into a separate “sandbox” where you do not have to be concerned about accidentally placing trades against your live accounts.
Connect to Other Brokers/Data Services – You can maintain connections across multiple brokers and data services in the Professional and Ultimate Editions. If you have one of the other editions, you will have to create separate workspaces for this purpose.
Start Fresh – Sometimes, you just want to start over with a fresh workspace that has all the default settings, instruments and watch lists.
The simplest way to create a new workspace is to click on the Options button then select Workspaces when you first start MotiveWave:
From the Manage Workspaces dialog, click on the New Workspace button:
The multi-broker feature allows you to have multiple connections to brokers/data services in a single workspace. The feature is available in the Ultimate and Professional versions of MotiveWave®.
When you click on the Add Connection above, you will see the dialog below. From this dialog you can select a broker or data service (from the Service drop down) to add to the workspace. Please Note: available services will depend on the operating system you are using (Windows or macOS). For a full list of supported brokers and data services.
Optionally, you can add more connections to the workspace by clicking on the Add Connection button. When you are finished, click on the Create Workspace button to complete this task.
For other editions of MotiveWave®, a workspace can only have one connection. In this case, choose a unique name for your workspace and select a broker/data service from the Service drop down. When you are finished configuring the connection, click on Create Workspace. Please Note: available services will depend on the operating system you are using (Windows or macOS). For a full list of supported brokers and data services.
The final step is to open the workspace (after you have closed all the dialogs above). Select the new workspace from the -Please Select a Workspace- drop down and click on the Continue button to open.
