General

General

This panel contains general preferences that you can configure.

Auto Save Interval – Enable auto save and select the interval in seconds.

Tick History Limit – Number of time and sales entries that will be saved in memory.

DOM History Limit – Number of market depth entries that will be saved in memory. This setting relates to the Order Heatmap study.

DOM Snapshot Interval – Set time interval in which a snapshot is taken and saved of the DOM. This snapshot includes price and volume for the DOM's market depth at that time.

Filter Bad Historical Ticks – MotiveWave will filter out spikes from historical data. This uses a high amount of CPU.

Max Journal Entries – Maximum entries in your workspace Journal. Click + icon next to a chart and select Journal. The Journal keeps a log of many events including connection and orders.

Max Log Files – Maximum number of log files saved to your drive before MotiveWave will delete the oldest file as it adds a new one. One log file is created each time an instance is started.

P/L Calculation – For P/L displayed in the Trade Panel, DOM, Positions panel etc. The calculations are as follows:

  • Last Price - The last traded price.

  • Bid/Ask Price - Long trades will use the bid price and short trades will use the ask price.

Value Area Method – The calculation for determining the value area:

  • Standard

    1. Determine the total volume traded in the profile.

    2. Take the number volume and multiply it by 0.7 to determine what number is 70 percent of the total volume. (70% is the default; however, any percentage can be used).

    3. Start at the Point of Control (POC), The row in the profile with the greatest total volume, and record its total volume number. The POC will be the first profile row added to the Value Area.

    4. Now look at the two rows above the POC (the initial value area) and add the total volume of both.

    5. Now look at the two rows beneath the POC (the initial value area) and add the total volume of both.

    6. Determine which of the total volume numbers is larger and add it to the total volume number of the POC found in step 3.

    7. Repeat steps 4 and 5 adding the larger of the next two numbers to the Value Area.

    8. Once the total volume of your Value Area matches or slightly surpasses the number found in step 2, the Value Area has been determined.

    9. The highest row within the Value Area will be your Value Area High (VAH) and the lowest row within the Value Area will be your Value Area Low (VAL).

  • Optimized

    1. Determine the total volume traded in the profile.

    2. Take the number volume and multiply it by .7 to determine what number is 70 percent of the total volume. (70% is the default; however, any percentage can be used).

    3. Start at the Point of Control (POC), The row in the profile with the greatest total volume, and record its total volume number. The POC will be the first profile row added to the Value Area.

    4. Spanning out from the POC (up and down the profile), try to use as few rows as possible to reach the 70 percent value area.

    5. Once the total volume of your Value Area matches or slightly surpasses the number found in step 2, the Value Area has been determined.

    6. The highest row within the Value Area will be your Value Area High (VAH) and the lowest row within the Value Area will be your Value Area Low (VAL).

Mask Account – This option will mask your account number with X's starting from the left side e.g. 12345 becomes XXX45.

UI Update Interval – General chart update interval (Default: 200 ms). Setting this too low may overload your CPU.

Quote Board Mode – Will color the Watch List Quote Board font. Last Price will color based on up-tick or down-tick and Delta will color based on a positive/negative daily value.

24 Hour Clock – Charts and Clock will show 24 hour or AM/PM time.

Use Native Windows – (Windows OS only) Will use a normal Windows style window that will not hide the Windows system taskbar. Restart required.

Show Bar Size in Tabs – Charts tabs will display the chart's current bar size.

Confirm Exit – Displays a dialog confirming you would like to shut the program down.

Link Stacked Charts – Chart tabs within chart panels will switch when another chart tab is switched on a different chart panel on the same page.

Show Watch List Count – Displays the number of instruments within the watch list next to the watch list name.
